Description
Empower young Tanzanian women facing adversity through our comprehensive volunteer program. Partnering with a secure shelter in Arusha, we support girls aged 13-24 who've experienced homelessness, neglect, unpaid labor, unconsensual marriages, unwanted pregnancies, trafficking, and sexual violence.
Our holistic approach encompasses education, psychological, physical, and social development, breaking the cycles of poverty and violence. We provide formal education, vocational training, human rights education, and HIV/AIDS awareness, enhancing employability. Join us to make a lasting impact, equipping these resilient girls with essential life skills and opportunities for a brighter future.
This is a Community Development program which aims to create more awareness around women's rights and gender equality.
A typical
Day in the Life
The start of work is flexible at any time between 9am and 10am. The tasks of the volunteers are diverse and mostly freely selectable. Many volunteers either work with the children in the daycare, work directly with the women during their business development and rehabilitation program, or conduct english teaching.
Much of this program is about working with the women to understand their barriers and challenges as women in a developing society with little access to equal opportunity in work, education and the legal system.
Some days might not come with a special task to do for you, so you have to be a bit creative and ask where your help is needed. Once in a while, you can take some of the girls on a walk through the neighbourhood and listen to their stories and problems. Please Keep in mind that the girls and women were victims of human trafficking, were raped or experienced other horrible things. Please be confidential about what you are being told by the girls and be sensitive about their background. Don’t ask them anything that could make them feel uncomfortable. The women shelter has to remain a safe space for them!

To ensure saftey and wellbeing of the women, this program has a 3-week minimum requirement
All Zanzibar programs have a small fee of just $215 per week to cover your living expenses and the program inclusions whilst volunteering
All bookings are fully flexible and you can shift programs or dates as needed - so no need to worry if the unexpected happens!
